Our sweet friend Vicki gave us this cute little sign when we were getting ready to move. Thanks Vicki!
On Sunday morning we walked into church without jackets. By midnight we were under a thick layer of ice and without power. 10,000 people in our community lost power. We stayed in the house until the thermostat reached 55 degrees and then we high-tailed it out of there. The problem is that we have zero family here to bunk with until the power comes back. The power company informed me that it would be 3-4 days before all the lines were right again so we decided that waiting it out could get rather chilly. So we, along with a LOT of other people, headed to a local hotel to warm up and bathe. We got a room just in time because I heard the front desk tell someone on the phone that they no longer had vacancies. The other 5 hotels on the same road are full as well. The local news reported this morning that the power companies have worked through the night and now have the number of homes without power down to 5,000. The trouble is, we are one of those remaining 5,000. When we got to the house this morning the temperature inside was 42 degrees. We walked the dog, said hi to the cat, and headed back to our warm hotel room and booked another night.
Ironically enough, our propane is scheduled to be filled for our emergency heater this friday. When the ice will be gone. And it will be in the 50s and 60s.
You would think I have plenty of time on my hands to write my posts for the Notes from a Blue Bike tour but it hasn’t quite worked out that way. I will be stuck in a hotel today but I doubt I will have the brain capacity to think “critically”. Too much space in my brain is being taken up by thoughts of when we will have power again and how to plan accordingly if it isn’t by tomorrow morning at checkout time.
So instead of book tour posts I will be entertaining two little boys. And appreciating the luxury of heat and running water and lights. And eating lots of snacks.
I’ll be back on schedule when we thaw out.
